Most applicants are required to appear in person at the Applicant Service Center (ASC) and Consular Section to apply for a U.S. visa. However, certain applicants may be qualified to apply without appearing at either the ASC or Consular Section. Qualified applicants can use a courier service, DHL, to submit the appropriate documentation.
Qualifications for applying for a Visitor or Business (B1/B2) visa using a Personal Appearance Waiver:
- The applicant is an Argentine CITIZEN and under the age of 14, and at least one of the parents:
- Is an Argentine citizen,
- Possesses a valid visa of the same visa category they are requesting for the child(ren),
- Has not had a previous visa lost, stolen or revoked within the last 10 years, and
- Has never been arrested or convicted of a crime, deported from the United States, denied entry to the United States, or has had any other problems or difficulties with U.S. Customs and Border Patrol when attempting to enter the United States.
- Please note: The case will not be accepted if either of the parents holds a U.S. Passport.
- OR
- The applicant is 80 years of age and older and:
- Is an Argentine citizen applying with an Argentine passport,
- Was not previously refused a visa of any category,
- Has not had a previous visa or passport lost, stolen, or revoked within the last 10 years, and
- Has never been arrested or convicted of a crime, deported from the United States, denied entry to the United States, or has had any other problems or difficulties with U.S. Customs and Border Patrol when attempting to enter the United States.
Application procedures for applicants who are not required to appear in person:
Applicants who meet the requirements listed above can drop off their documents at DHL following these steps:
- Complete the Nonimmigrant Visa Electronic Application, and print out the DS-160 confirmation (barcode) number for each applicant. The application can be completed at https://ceac.state.gov/genniv
- Create a new account or log in by clicking “Log In” at the top right corner of this Web site (For detailed instructions please see How to use this Web site.
- Note: Once you have have logged in. You can return to the “Applicant Summary” page at any time by clicking on “My Account” at the top right corner of the Web site.
- Follow the Web site’s flow:
- In the Trip Purpose menu, select "Nonimmigrant Visas," then select "Visitor (B)" and "Visitor Visa (B1/B2) – Personal Appearance Waiver."
- Select the DHL location to drop off and pick up the documents.
- Pay the MRV fee.
- Continue to follow the flow of the Web site till you reach the Confirmation page
- Please print the Confirmation page (you will need this to drop off your documents at the DHL office).
- Click HERE and print an instruction sheet with a checklist.
- Collect the following documents:
- Applicant’s valid passport with at least two empty pages available,
- Previous passports that contain valid or expired U.S. visas,
- Confirmation page of the DS-160 form (CEAC) with the bar code
- Recent 5x5 photograph, facing front with white background, printed on photographic paper
- MRV fee payment confirmation
- The Confirmation Page,
- Applicants under the age of 14:
- Copy of the bio page of visa-holding parent/s’ passport/s
- Copy of the valid parent/s’ visa/s
- Copy of the birth certificate and/or the Libreta de Familia
- Applicants 80 years of age and older:
- If you have relatives/friends in the United States, please provide proof of legal status, e.g. copy of Green Card, copy of valid visa or work permit, etc.
- Copy of Medical/Traveler’s Insurance, covering any existing illnesses
- Once you have all the documents required on the checklist, carefully read the statement at the end of the sheet, sign & date it and sent it together with the other documents.
- Take all these documents and the instruction sheet to the DHL location noted on the confirmation page.
PLEASE NOTE: The Consular Officer not only reserves the right to request an in-person interview for any applicant for any reason, but also to request further documentation.
An applicant should not make final travel plans until the visa has been approved and delivered.
