Visa Renewal

Each visa application is unique. Most applicants are required to schedule an appointment at the Applicant Service Center (ASC) and an interview appointment at the Consular Section, to apply for a nonimmigrant visa.  In limited cases visa applicants do not need a personal interview, although an applicant may be required to schedule an appointment at the ASC to have fingerprints captured and an appointment at the Consular Section to verify the fingerprints and to submit application documents.

Please read the information below very carefully to determine the correct procedure to renew your visa.

Qualifications for renewing a Visitor (B1/B2) visa without an interview at the Consular Section:

  • The applicant is an Argentine CITIZEN and
    • Is applying with an Argentine passport,
    • Possesses a valid 10-year B1/B2 visa issued in Buenos Aires (or one that has expired within the past 4 years), and
    • Has not had a previous visa or passport lost, stolen, or revoked within the last 10 years.
    • Policia Federal has not retained any passport when renewing in the last 10 years

Applicants who meet the requirements listed above can follow these steps to schedule an appointment at the ASC and the Consular Section to complete the visa application process:

  1. Complete the Nonimmigrant Visa Electronic Application, and print out the DS-160 confirmation (barcode) number for each applicant. The application can be completed at https://ceac.state.gov/genniv.
  2. Create a new account or log in by clicking "Log In" at the top right corner of this Web site (For detailed instructions please see How to use this Web site.
    • Note: Once you have have logged in. You can return to the "Applicant Summary" page at any time by clicking on "My Account" at the top right corner of the Web site.
  3. Follow the Web site’s flow:
    • In the Trip Purpose menu, select "Nonimmigrant Visas", then select " Renewing a visa." Click Submit to continue.
    • Select a DHL location where you wish to pick up your passport and visa after it is processed.
    • Affirm your eligibility for this renewal program.
    • Pay the MRV fee.
    • Select a date and time for the ASC appointment and the Consular Section appointment.
  4. Print the confirmation page for your records.
  5. Attend the scheduled appointments with the following documents:
    • Applicant’s valid passport with at least two empty pages available,
    • Previous passports that contain valid or expired US visas,
    • Confirmation page of the DS- 160 form (CEAC) with the bar code,
    • The Confirmation page

Qualifications for renewing a Crew, Student, Exchange Visitor, Journalist, or Temporary Work Visa without scheduling appointments at either the ASC or Consular Section

  • Possess a valid visa or one that has expired in the past 12 months,
  • Apply for the same visa category, with a previous visa issued in Buenos Aires on or after 10 August 2007 and all ten fingerprints must have been captured at the prior interview,
  • Be an Argentine citizen with a valid Argentine passport,
  • Be in possession of the previous visa,
  • Be physically present in Argentina at the time of the application,
  • Not have had a previous visa lost, stolen or revoked within the last 10 years,
  • Have never been arrested or convicted of a crime, deported from the United States, denied entry to the United States, or have had any other problems or difficulties with U.S. Customs and Border Patrol when attempting to enter the United States.
  • For Student (F, M), or Exchange (J) Visas, the applicant must be returning to the same institution or workplace as indicated in the previous visa application,

NOTE: Applicants renewing a J1 Summer Work & Travel visa DO NOT qualify to use this program.

Application procedures for applicants renewing a visa and not required to appear in person:

Work and student visa applicants (C1/D, F, M, J, H, L, O, P, Q & R visa applicants) who meet the requirements listed above can drop off their application documents at DHL following these steps: (the program DO NOT apply for renewing J1 Work & Travel Visa)

  1. Complete the Nonimmigrant Visa Electronic Application, and print out the DS-160 confirmation (barcode) number for each applicant. The application can be completed at https://ceac.state.gov/genniv.
  2. Create a new account or log in by clicking "Log In" at the top right corner of this Web site (For detailed instructions please see How to use this Web site
    • Note: Once you have have logged in. You can return to the “Applicant Summary” page at any time by clicking on “My Account” at the top right corner of the Web site.
  3. Follow the Web site’s flow:
    • In the Trip Purpose menu, select "Nonimmigrant Visas" and "Renewing a visa."
    • Select one of the appropriate trip purpose:
      • "Crew (C1/D), Student (F, M), Exchange Visitor (J), or Journalist (I) visas" or
      • "Temporary Worker (H, L, O, P, Q, or R) visas"
    • Select the DHL location.
    • Affirm your eligibility for this renewal program.
    • Pay the MRV fee.
    • Continue to follow the flow of the Web site until you reach the Confirmation page
  4. Please print the Confirmation page(you will need this to drop off your documents at the DHL office).
  5. Click HERE and print an instruction sheet with a checklist.
  6. Collect the following documents:
    • Applicant’s valid passport with at least two empty pages available,
    • Previous passports that contain valid or expired U.S. visas,
    • Confirmation page of the DS-160 form (CEAC) with the bar code,
    • MRV fee payment confirmation,
  7. Once you have all the documents required on the checklist, carefully read the statement at the end of the sheet, sign & date it.
  8. Take all these documents and the instruction sheet to the DHL location noted on your Confirmation page.

NOTE: The Consular Officer reserves the right to request an in-person interview, for any applicant, for any reason.

An applicant should not make final travel plans until the visa has been approved and delivered.
