Personal Appearance Waiver

Most applicants are required to appear personally at the Consular Section to apply for a U.S. visa. However, certain applicants may be exempt from that requirement based on their age.

Bolivian applicants (or legal residents of Bolivia) under the age of 14 or over the age of 79 may be represented at the visa interview by an immediate family member.

Children under the age of 14 applying for a Nonimmigrant visa do not need to be present at the time of the interview.

  • At least one custodial parent must be present at the time of the child's visa interview. Both parents may appear at the scheduled appointment to submit the child’s application documents.
  • In the case of single/divorced parents, the parent must present original custody documents issued by the courts.
  • Any applicant whose 14th birthday occurred on/or prior to the date of the scheduled appointment must attend the visa interview.
  • Parents must be prepared to provide evidence of their own financial, professional, and familial ties to Bolivia in order to support the child's application. And the child’s birth certificate.

Applicants over the age of 79 must be represented by an immediate family member (spouse, child, sibling, or adult grandchild)

PLEASE REMEMBER! Applicants who are between the ages of 14 and 18 must be accompanied by one or both parents at the time of their interview.
