Travel Documents for Children under 16 years of age:

There are two ways for children under 16 years of age to enter the U.S

1. The child holds his/her own passport.
2. The child is entered in the passport of the parent with whom the child will be traveling.

In case you are traveling with a minor who is not your child, a parental consent/power of attorney is recommended so that, in the case of an emergency, the necessary action can be taken in the absence of a parent. It is also recommended that every traveler have his/her own passport.

Please note that children traveling under the Visa Waiver Program must have their own, individual, passport.

Unless canceled by DHS or a Consular Officer, a visa is valid until its expiration date. Therefore, if you have a valid U.S. visa in an expired passport, you may present it, along with a new valid passport, to the DHS officer at the Port of Entry. Both of the passports must be the same nationality, the bearer’s name must be identical in both passports, and the page bearing the visa must not have been removed from the old passport. If the name has changed due to marriage, present the marriage certificate to the DHS officer at the port of entry.

Indefinite visas are no longer valid for travel to the U.S.. Bearers of indefinite visas who wish to travel to the U.S. should apply for a new visa at the U.S. Consulate with jurisdiction over their place of residence.

The passports of the following nationalities must be valid for the duration of stay in the U.S. Passports of all other nationalities, who are NOT on the list below, must be valid for at least 6 months after the departure from the U.S.
