Personal Appearance Waiver

Most applicants are required to appear personally at the Consular Section to apply for a U.S. visa. However, certain applicants may be exempted from that requirement based on their age.

Applicants may courier in the application through DHL, if the applicant meets the criteria below:

  • A child under 14 years of age, who has at least one parent who holds a current or prior U.S. visa or holds a Visa Waiver Program (VWP)-compliant passport.
    • A copy of the parent's visa(s) must be included with the child's visa application, as well as a notarized letter of consent from both parents.
  • Applicants age 80 or over.

Applicants who do not require personal interviews must:

  1. Register an account through this Web site and send the application(s) in by DHL courierat no additional cost.
    • If couriering in documents the applicant will not need to schedule an appointment but must enter all personal data and information, including selecting a DHL pick-up location in this Web site. See "Courier Information" on the left-hand menu for details.
    • Please select appointment type and print out the confirmation page that instructs DHL to accept your package at no additional charge.
  2. The application package sent via DHL must include:
    • The complete DS-160 visa application
    • Applicant's valid passport
    • All appropriate documents
    • MRV fee payment confirmation

Note: Applications will not be accepted if dropped off at the consular section, or by different courier. Applications for children must include a notarized statement of consent from each parent, and a copy of a parent's visa or VWP passport. See "Do I Need to Apply?" on the left-hand menu for VWP information.

In some cases, the Consulate will contact the applicant to request a personal interview.
