Fee Payment Options

Effective, Friday, April 13, 2012, there will be changes in the Visa Application Fee (MRV fee). Please note: Any fees paid prior to Friday, April 13, 2012 remain valid for one year from the date of payment. There will be a 90 day grace period after which the difference between the old rate and the new rate must be paid at the Consular Section cashier. No refunds will be available to applicants who paid the higher fee.

The changes in the Visa Application fee (also known as the MRV fee) are:

CSC collects U.S. Machine-Readable Visa application fees (MRV fees) on behalf of the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi. The MRV fee is determined by the type of visa for which the applicant is applying.

MRV FEE PAYMENTS ARE NON-REFUNDABLE AND NON-TRANSFERABLE. Once paid, this fee is valid for one year from the payment date and can only be used for U.S. visa applications submitted in Kenya. If the MRV Fee Receipt Number is lost before use, the applicant may have to pay an additional MRV fee to schedule an appointment.

Nonimmigrant visa application fees (also known as "MRV fees") are the equivalent of:

  • USD$160 for most visas that do not require a petition.
    • Examples of visas in this category are:
      • Visitor Visa for business/pleasure (B1/B2),
      • Exchange Visitor Visa (J),
      • Student Visa (F),
      • Non-Academic Student visa (M)
      • Information Media Representative visa (I),
      • Crew visa (C1/D),
      • Any other visa class not specifically named as requiring higher-tiered fees.
  • USD$190 for petition based visas:
    • Examples of visas in this category are:
      • Temporary workers and trainees(H),
      • Intracompany transferees (L ),
      • Persons with extraordinary ability (O),
      • Athletes, artists, and entertainers (P),
      • International cultural exchange visitors (Q),
      • Religious Workers (R).
  • USD$240 for Fiancé(e) (K) visas.
  • USD$270 for all E category nonimmigrant visas [Treaty Trader (E-1), Treaty Investor (E-2) and Australian Worker (E-3) visa)].

Reciprocity Fee

  • Depending on the applicant's country of citizenship and the type of visa being applied for, the applicant may also be required to pay a fee for visa issuance, known as a reciprocity fee. The applicant may obtain this information by visiting the following Web site: http://travel.state.gov/visa/fees/fees_3272.html.

Using this Web site:

  • Cash or Mobile Phone Payment
    1. Please log into the Web site using the applicant's passport number, date of birth and nationality.
    2. Follow the Web page instructions to select applicant's trip purpose, preferred Consulate to schedule an appointment, and other pertinent details related to the visa application.
    3. While following the steps on the Web site, the applicant will be asked to either make a payment or to confirm the payment has already been made by using a "MRV Fee Receipt Number."
    4. Payment can be made using the following options:
        1. Please select Cash.
        2. Click on the "PDF" link next to the "MRV Fee Receipt Number" box.
        3. Print the electronic generated deposit slip for each applicant.
        4. Complete the relevant information.
        5. Take the deposit slip(s) to the bank and pay.
        6. The "MRV Fee Receipt Number" is located at the top of the deposit slip .
          • Note: Each applicant requires a separate "Receipt Number."
        7. Return to this Web site and enter the "MRV Fee Receipt Number" when asked to provide it.
        1. Select Mobile payment.
        2. Click on the “PDF” line next to the "MRV Fee Receipt Number" box.
        3. Use the Mobile Pay Deposit Slip PDF to pay your MRV fee. Step-by-step instructions with screenshots are included.
        4. Enter the MRV Fee Receipt Number into the field provided on the MRV Fee Receipt page and click "Submit".
        5. The next page will open to the appointment calendar.

If you have paid your MRV fee, your MRV Fee Receipt Number is not immediately valid in our system. There is a delay between the time you make your payment and when you can use your MRV Fee Receipt Number to schedule an appointment.

It may take up to four hours for your payment to be reported to our system by Safaricom or Postbank.

  • If your payment was made after 3:00 PM, your MRV Fee Receipt Number will not be usable until the next business day.
  • If your payment was made on a Saturday or Sunday, your MRV Fee Receipt Number will not be usable until the next business day.
  • If your payment was made on a Kenyan holiday, your MRV Fee Receipt Number will not be usable until the next business day.

If you enter your MRV Fee Receipt Number but receive an error message or are otherwise unable to use it to schedule an appointment, DO NOT PAY AGAIN – additional MRV fee payments will not be refunded.

  • Have you waited the appropriate amount of time for your MRV Fee Receipt Number to validate (see above)?
  • Does the number you entered match the MRV Fee Receipt Number exactly as it appears on the MRV Fee Deposit Slip?

If your MRV Fee Receipt Number is still unusable, please click on "Contact Us" (the link is at the top of this page) and e-mail us for assistance. The call center cannot assist with most payment issues. In your e-mail, please provide the following information for each MRV Fee Receipt Number you are experiencing issues with:

  • Applicant’s personal details (name, passport number, date of birth, and nationality)
  • Visa type being applied for
  • MRV Fee Receipt Number
  • Method of payment (cash or mobile payment)
  • Payment amount
